Windows 98 Accessories

T he Accessories are a collection of useful utilities and applications included with Windows 98. Many of these Accessories fall into a few distinct groups: Communications, Entertainment, System Tools, and so on. Overall, the only thing these Accessories have in common is that they are found in the same place because there is no other place to put them. Most of the Accessories are optional components that you can include during Setup or add later using the Windows 98 tab of the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel. However, not all the optional components are Accessories. The Windows 98 Setup options (Typical, Custom, Portable, Compact) each include a collection of Accessories (refer to Table 1.2).

Table A.1 provides a brief summary of Windows 98 Accessories with references to chapters in which the Accessories are discussed in detail. You might not see all these Accessories on your PC when you select Start Menu/Programs/Accessories. If you're looking for an Accessory and can't find it through the Start menu, try the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.
